The Treasures Tub

I began to separate papers that I had found in a big plastic tub, abandoned for years. I quickly immersed myself in a past that is now totally foreign.

Did I really kept these things?

First I found souvenirs from my French school, La Maisonnette in Chile. It was a joy to see pictures of my classmates in primary school and my articles, and my classmates articles, in the small magazines. I remembered with much satisfaction how the founder of this school, Madame Gabriela accepted in her school children that were rejected by other schools at the time she started this school. She accepted, for instance, Jews fleeing the Nazis, Spanish exiles from the war, children of separated or annulled parents who remarried. Even in the 50’s one of my classmates was a Jew who’s parents have escaped from persecution by communist Russians. They have fled to Russia after they have been mistreated by the Nazis.

I found diplomas, certificates, titles, old property deeds, etc.

I also found almost every single paper I wrote at different Universities! The questions for my written and oral exam to obtain my Ph.D! An American Socialist newspaper! All instruments to measure Myers Briggs Personality Inventory in English, French and Spanish! Many conference proceedings containing papers I presented at different conferences in the U. S. and Europe! Programs from conferences I attended! Magazines and newspapers from Chile and France!

On these nerdy papers about transformational grammar, analyticity and Noam Chomsky linguistics, I developed and discussed the most absurdly non-important-at-all theories. Reading these papers I realized, as the apostle Paul did, that now all these human theories are “skubalon” (any refuse, excrement of animal, rubbish, etc. in Greek) compared to the only knowledge that I pursue now: knowing Jesus and Him alone. Notice “knowing” Jesus, not knowing “about” Jesus.

I also found some theological articles from different kind of journals and “intellectual” publications. The word “theology” comes from two Greek words, theos (“God”) and logos (“word”). According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, “theology is the attempt of adherents of a faith to represent their statements of belief consistently, to explicate them out of the basis (or fundamentals) of their faith, and to assign to such statements their specific place within the context of all other worldly relations (e.g., nature and history) and spiritual processes (e.g., reason and logic).” In other words it is a very human way to try to “explain God”!

However God can only be known as He reveals Himself to you and me!

Romans 1:18-21 “For [God does not overlook sin and] the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who in their wickedness suppress and stifle the truth, because that which is known about God is evident within them [in their inner consciousness], for God made it evident to them. For ever since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through His workmanship [all His creation, the wonderful things that He has made], so that they [who fail to believe and trust in Him] are without excuse and without defense. For even though they knew God [as the Creator], they did not honor Him as God or give thanks [for His wondrous creation]. On the contrary, they became worthless in their thinking [godless, with pointless reasonings, and silly speculations], and their foolish heart was darkened.”

The question is why did I kept all these things? Who will be interested at all in these details of my life?

I’m scanning some of these memories and preserving them on a computer. But I know nobody ever will bother to take a look at them. It is my story, it is my life and I have no children or relatives that will ever be interested in all these details of my interesting life.

In this tub I found the last Curriculum Vitae I put together in 2020. I wrote it during the time we could not travel because of the “official” misinformation distributed by the World Health Organization about the COVID-19 pandemic. United Nations and the governments of different countries significantly contributed to public panic not allowing people to be treated until they were sick beyond remedy. Many died of a different sickness, but the Hospitals sign declarations saying they died as COVID victims. Much money was to gain by saying patients died of COVID rather than a heart attack! Big scam ever!

This Curriculum Vitae of mine has twelve pages. It includes my High School diploma and the three degrees I obtained at different Universities. B.A. in Journalism, at the University of Chile in 1962, M.A. in Journalism, at the University of Georgia in Athens in 1968 and a Ph.D. in Education and Computer Science obtained the University of Texas in Austin in 1978.

It includes Certifications and Accreditations in Computer Networking in 1999, my Myers-Briggs Certification form Azusa Pacific University in 1993, my certification as Spanish Instructor at Berlitz School in 1980 and my Texas Teacher Certification in 1979.

It includes seventeen specialization courses taken between 1975 and 1997 in education, computer assisted instruction, documentation, expert systems (AI), electronic publishing, educational administration, mini and microcomputers architecture, supervision, language acquisition, audiovisual equipment, and others.

Education related courses I took at Texas Woman University in Denton Texas in 1981, at East Texas State University in Commerce Texas in 1982, and computer courses at Barry University in Miami Florida in 1984 and 1985.

It also has a list of all the authoring and computer language courses I took from 1975 to 2000, twelve in total. Six courses in communications, seven courses in Education taken in Chile in 1971 and 1972.

My administrative experience from 1972 to 2007 at four different organizations: University of the North in Chile, Dallas Independent School District, United Bible Societies and SIL International. My experience in Information Technology, in Instructional Technology, Adult Education and Journalism. My academic experience in Distance Education from 1974 to 2014 and Communications from 1968 to 1996

A list of Lectures and Conferences from 1981 to 2006. A total of thirty-two. A list of Research and Publications from 1966 to 2006 is too long to include here. A list of scholarships received at the University of Texas in Austin and the University of Georgia in Athens and Awards received in Austin, USA and Santiago, Chile.

The CV closes with a list of Volunteer work from 1984 to 2020 including Prison Ministry starting in 1984, Travel Club at The Summit 50+ Active Adult Center from 2010 to 2018 and Grand Prairie Tourist Information Center at Lone Star Park from 2014 to 2023.

I found yellowed clips of newspapers and magazines of many of my articles when I was working at the Department of Public Relations at the University of Chile in Santiago. I also found an article about a course I created for the Spanish and Portuguese Department at the University of Texas in Austin. (see picture below)

It was hard to believe but if I count all the years I spent studying they are 25 years. However the only ones I should count are the ones I have spent with the Word of God since 1982.

God, before too many more years, will bring me to the end of a life full of amazing and fabulous experiences. Some bad, some good, some extremely unexpected. I thank God for the discovery of this “treasure tub”. It brought me to analyze how empty was my search for any other knowledge. How beautiful and simple it is to search the Bible and know, daily, how He cares for and protects me!
